On October 1, 2024, 10 Downing Street witnessed a powerful rally that brought together voices demanding justice together with freedom for Southern Cameroonians. The Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) organized this important demonstration to make the UK government fully aware of Cameroon’s current conflict and to support Southern Cameroon’s independence.
We the members of Southern Cameroons in the United Kingdom have joined forces through the SCNC-UK to preserve the struggle for independence by informing His Majesty’s government about the mistreatment of our people. Our main objective remains absolute liberation from foreign domination on our homeland since we have committed ourselves to liberate our lands from the invasion of La Republic du Cameroun.
Since its inception SCNC has maintained non-violent action as its core philosophy, with its motto “The force of argument, not the argument of force” and loudly defends the civil rights of Anglophone Cameroonians. Through this demonstration Southern Cameroonians displayed ongoing hardships because the political system continues to marginalize and infringe upon their human rights. The SCNC-UK insists that La Republic du Cameroun dismisses both dialogue principles and court decisions.
Our demonstration began in front of 10 Downing Street and ended with our petition submission to the Commonwealth while highlighting the dire necessity of external intervention for Southern Cameroonians’ right to self-determination and independence.
The world needs to listen to Southern Cameroonians because their suffering requires urgent intervention from international observers. The demonstration in front of 10 Downing Street advanced the mission to ensure that key voices touched the ears and minds of those with effective power.
We are also pleased to share that we have pictures from this impactful demonstration, which vividly capture the unity and determination of those who stood in solidarity for the freedom of Southern Cameroons.
Through our work in the UK, the SCNC remains committed to making a difference in several key areas, including providing shelter for our countrymen running from their homes and living in bushes, ensuring and safeguarding the future of our children through youth programs and education, and providing financial packages to ensure comrades get the health services they need.
The fight for freedom continues, and the demonstration at 10 Downing Street marks another important chapter in our pursuit of justice and independence for Southern Cameroons.
